Thermodynamics of accuracy
Abstract: In several biomolecular processes the observed error rate is much smaller than expected on the basis of equilibrium thermodynamics. This is explained by the presence of non-equilibrium "proofreading" mechanisms, which require dissipation. We propose a measure of the thermodynamic efficiency for these mechanisms and explore how different proofreading schemes fare in terms of efficiency, speed and accuracy.
