Hydrodynamics of heterogeneous liquid films
Quentin Magdelaine (Institut Jean le Rond d’Alembert, UPMC, Paris and Laboratoire Surface du Verre et Interfaces, Saint-Gobain Recherche, Aubervilliers).
Coating a surface allows to functionalize it to confer new optical, chemical, thermal or mechanical properties [1]. The wet coating is appealing because of its efficiency and low cost. However, during the drying of the film, small roughness often appears and ruins the properties of the surface. To control this process, we need to understand the hydrodynamics of these films, particularly the influence of an heterogeneous chemical composition during the drying step. The evaporation can induce heterogeneities and trigger Marangoni flows which in turn destabilize the film [2]. In this talk, I present few leads to investigate this mechanism experimentally and numerically.
