The induced dynamics of a probe in contact with active or driven particles

Christian Maes

Abstract: For a probe (slower degrees of freedom) coupled to a nonequilibrium bath, we ask for the characteristics of its Brownian motion.  What makes the drift nongradient?  Can we stabilize new phases? What is the new relation between friction and noise?  What may make the noise nonGaussian, always compared with the equilibrium situation.  We give some examples and we explain the systematics which is based on nonequilibrium response theory.
