Geomorphology : experimental study of hydraulic erosion of a granular layer

This project in collaboration with Professor Dan Rothman's group at MIT studies the erosion of a granular layer by seepage flow in order to explain appearance of rivers on a flat surface.
Previous work on physics of channelization investigated experimentally the growth of erosion channels by a seepage flow under an incline surface of a granular material. Now we study erosion of a flat surface when the water provided to the seepage flow is introduced by a homogeneous rain.
