Molecular properties in viscoelastic flow

 

The flow properties of simple liquids are altered dramatically by the addition of a tiny amount of flexible polymers. 
Viscoelastic instabilities might appear or – vice versa – flow singularities can be suppressed. 
We present measurements of the Rayleigh instability of a highly stretched fibre of a semi diluted polymer solution while droplet- pinch off. 
Several microscopic methods are used to determine the conformational dynamic of the macromolecules in the flow.
